Hi Everyone! One of my favorite Nigerian Pastry is Sausage Rolls and I mentioned here that I would share the recipe soon. It is one of the first pastry I ever tried to make too. Its so simple to make and I love mine bite size. I have given this recipe to a few friends and they have been pleased with the results. In the past I used salted butter but I recently have been cutting down my salt intake and switching butter didn’t change the taste. Try it and let me know what you think.
Ingredients:
2 sticks of unsalted butter (room temperature)
4 cups of all purpose flour
1 cup of water (room temperature)
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons sugar
1 pack of uncooked breakfast turkey or any other choice of meat
2 eggs (crack and whisk together)
Makes 54 mini sausage rolls
In a large mixing bowl add the flour, butter, sugar and sugar
Using your hand, mix it together then add water and continue mixing till it becomes a nice smooth dough
It should look like this
Sprinkle some flour on your rolling surface/ board.Using a rolling pin spread out the dough until even.Once its spread out evenly, use a knife to cut out lines
Add the sausage
Roll
Cut
I don’t grease my baking pan, I just place parchment paper on the baking sheet and lay the sausage rolls on it.
Use a brush to cover each sausage with the egg mix
Use a fork to punch holes 3 times across the sausage rolls
Bake in the oven at 365 degrees for 20 minutes. It might take less or more time depending on your oven. Final product should look like this. Cut one in half with a knife to make sure it is completely baked.
