We chose Iceland for our family summer trip because we wanted something different, and different is exactly what we got. The kind of trip that reminded us just how beautiful this planet is and had us wanting to stay outside, explore longer and see what was around the next corner.

And listen, Iceland gets a reputation for being expensive, but once I mentally switched from “Europe” to “island,” it made a lot more sense to me. 😂

Flat twist out tutorial

Hi y’all and happy new month! Thankful for the new quarter that began this week. As promised, I am sharing my step-by-step flat twist tutorial today. Please see below for picture images for every step. My plan is to start making videos soon,  I will add that on the list of things for the next quarter. Have questions, leave a comment or send me an email at titispassion@gmail.com

What are flat twist outs? It is a protective hair style good for relaxed/transitioning or natural hair.

Why flat twist hair?

It is an amazing no heat hairstyle that produces amazing curls with the right products. It is especially great for natural hair that shrinks because it stretches out the hair.  It is my go-to hair style for my daughter (She isn’t a big fan of ponytails.)

How long does it last?

They last between 5-7 days days

How can I maintain it?

Wearing a satin cap over your hair every night and oiling your hair in the mornings with your favorite sealer (mine being coconut oil).

Re-twisting them every night is another option.Time consuming, but your curls last longer.

Isn’t it tedious?

The first few times will take you a good 30-45 minutes but once you perfect it, it takes less time.

How do you get your daughter to sit still?

I put on favorite show on or give her a snack(:

Will it work for my hair type?

Flat twist outs will work for most hair types. Transitioning hair, hair that shrinks easily (4C hair) and curly hair are some hair textures it works with.

What products do you use?

Here are a list of products I use for my daughter who has curly hair

Shea Moisture Coconut and hibiscus smoothie

Curly cream brulee

Coconut oil

Denman brush

Hair clamps or flat rubber bands

Other product options

Styling aid: Shea moisture smoothie,  kinky-curly curl custard  and Argan oil styling gel

Cream styler: One ‘n Only Argan Oil Styling Cream and Moroccan Curling Perfection Defining Cream

Are there other no-heat ways to achieve curls?
Using rods, rollers or straws are other ways to achieve curls too. (Tutorials for another time)

What are the steps?
-Begin with clean hair that has been conditioned and is still damp not wet OR you can start with clean dry hair too.
– If hair is dry, wet hair  with water or a setting lotion to make it damp.
-Section out the hair into four parts.
-Apply a styling aid to help retain moisture, condition and control fizz.
-Starting with one section of the hair, create a section to flat twist
-Apply a generous amount of coconut oil and a cream styler  generously  from root to tip(The styler defines and moisturizes curls)
-Use your delman brush to brush the hair, focusing on the tip (to prevent tangling)
-Begin to twist hair, right piece over left all the way through or the opposite (I twist her hair in both directions)
-Braid the front sections facing the front, to ensure fullness in the front of the hair
-Cover hair with a satin bonnet

Next day or once hair is completely dry
-Apply coconut oil in your hands and untwist the curls
-Using a pick comb or  your hands, pick the hair from the roots to loosen the twists and style as you desire.
-Cover hair with a satin bonnet nightly

Don’t have the patience or time to do this yourself, visit a good natural hair stylist. Still confused here is a video.

Next hair post, I will be answering your questions and sharing more product options.

At what age did you start twisting your daughter's hair? I have a 7 months old and I don't know if it's too early to start twisting her hair.

Hi Miss Bee, I didn't start this on my daughter's hair till she was about 18months. I think 7 months is too young, they still have the soft spot on their scalps then.

The BEST time to travel? 🤔 It might just be should The BEST time to travel? 🤔 It might just be shoulder season. ✈️

It’s that sweet spot between peak season and the off season, when you can often find better prices, fewer crowds, and still enjoy great weather.

And honestly, some of my favorite trips have happened during this time.

The exact months will depend on where you’re going, so always do a little research before booking. But if your travel dates are flexible, checking shoulder season is one of the first things I recommend.

You could get the same destination, the same beautiful views, and the same experiences… just with fewer people and potentially for a lot less.

Save this for the next time you’re planning a trip. ✈️

Have you ever traveled during shoulder season?
