Kyoto has this energy that just slows you down even if you don’t realize you need to slow down. Less than 3 hours from Tokyo by bullet train, it feels like stepping into another world, poetic, sacred, and still somehow effortlessly cool. During our Japan trip, spending three days at Four Seasons Kyoto felt like stepping into a dream that invited me to breathe, to notice, and to just be.

Partnering with Four Seasons Kyoto was truly a dream come true. The experience captured everything I love about Japan, the balance between serenity and luxury and that deep sense of culture woven into every detail.

Arrival
The hotel sits quietly in Kyoto’s Higashiyama district surrounded by temples, narrow streets, and history at every turn. The moment we stepped into the lobby, I was met with the soft sound of a traditional Japanese instrument, the shamisen, playing in the background. That music, the scent of hinoki wood, and the gentle light pouring through the glass gave me chills. It instantly felt sacred.

Right in the center of it all is the Shakusui-en Garden, an 800-year-old pond garden that feels like the heart of the property. Watching koi fish glide through the water while sipping our welcome drink at Fuju Lounge instantly set the tone for the stay, filled with peace, presence, and a little bit of magic.
Our Room
We stayed in the Heritage Garden Room and it honestly might be one of my favorite hotel rooms ever. Waking up to the view of the Shakusui-en Garden felt like stepping into a painting. The stillness, mountain view, the morning mist over the pond, and the rustle of maple trees brought such a sense of peace and not forget, Four Seasons dreamy bed and pillows.

The room itself was everything I love about Japanese design, calm, minimal, and elegant. It’s the kind of space that makes you slow down without trying.
Each morning, we enjoyed breakfast for two, a beautiful mix of Japanese and Western dishes. Flaky pastries, fresh fruit, unagi, miso soup, dumplings, and perfectly whisked matcha. It was something for everyone, and that’s one of the things I appreciated most about this property. It’s truly family friendly while still feeling sophisticated.
Dinner at EMBA Kyoto Grill
Our six course dinner at EMBA Kyoto Grill deserves its own spotlight. Each course told a story with delicate flavors, stunning presentation, and ingredients that celebrated Kyoto’s seasons. The meal was paired with a glass of wine, and each course felt like a story, thoughtful, balanced, and beautifully paced.
Breakfast included miso to perfectly grilled unagi and handmade dumplings, every dish felt like an homage to Japanese cuisine with subtle international touches.

Dining here wasn’t just about the food. It was about the rhythm. Slow, intentional, delicious and elegant. Every bite reminded me that food in Japan isn’t rushed. It’s respected.
A Morning with Cultural Ambassador
One of my favorite parts of our stay was spending time with Nao, the hotel’s Cultural Ambassador. She led us on a two hour morning hike through a hidden trail at Fushimi Inari Shrine. Not the crowded main path, but a peaceful tucked away route where the only sounds were our footsteps and the whisper of the trees. One of the many local experiences available through Four Seasons Kyoto.

Nao shared stories about Kyoto’s spiritual traditions, its connection to nature, and the symbolism behind the shrine’s famous red gates. I’m not a hiker at all, but this was one of those experiences that felt soul deep, a walk that turned into a moment of reflection.
Later, we sat together and learned how to fold paper cranes, a beautiful Japanese tradition symbolizing peace and hope. It was such a grounding, heart centered experience that made me fall even more in love with Japanese culture.
Quiet Luxury Everywhere
The beauty of Four Seasons Kyoto is how it makes calm feel luxurious and the incredible service. From the spa and indoor pool to the sauna and steam rooms, every corner feels intentional, quiet, restorative, and artfully designed.
Whether you’re sipping tea by the garden or lounging after a long day of exploring, this property invites you to slow down and truly slow down.

Final Thoughts
Four Seasons Kyoto is where Japanese culture and modern luxury meet in the most harmonious way. It’s elegant yet grounded, family friendly yet deeply soulful. Between the mornings in our garden view room, the hike with Nao, the paper cranes, and the unforgettable service, I left feeling inspired and reset.

If you ever find yourself in Japan, let this be one of your stops. Kyoto has a way of teaching presence, and Four Seasons Kyoto is the perfect place to learn it. 🇯🇵
