Cake Pops

Hi everyone, sorry for the short hiatus from blogging. I blame it on my allergies.I decided to give cake pops a try recently. I have heard so much about them and they seem to be huge everywhere. They are so pretty to look at, but taste wise talk about a sugar high, lol. I definitely don’t have much of a sweet tooth 🙂 It came out great but I am challenged when it comes to designing them. They aren’t so difficult to make but definitely time consuming.

I decided to use a red velvet cake and used white chocolate and a pink candy to coat my cake pops. I posted a red velvet cake recipe recently so you can use that just cut the oil required in half.

Ingredients:
One 8 inch red velvet cake
1/2 cup of frosting
Bag of candy or chocolate of choice
Candy sticks

Cake Pop Instructions

Mash up the cake with a food processor or with your hands. Add the frosting to the crumbled cake in batches so you achieve a clay like mix. Use a measuring spoon for consistency in size for your cake pops. Roll into balls. Let it sit in the refrigerator for 30minutes or until hard. Dip the sticks one at a time in your chocolate melt and insert in the cake balls. Put back in the fridge or freezer for another 30minutes. Start dipping your cake pops in candy. Fully immmerse the cake pop in the candy melt, DO NOT turn the around in swirls because your cake pop will fall apart, trust me I know, lol. Full immersion will leave the cake pop fully covered with your candy. Tap gently the excess melt on your cake pop. Let it dry on a Styrofoam block. Add your designs to it before putting it back in the fridge to solidify. Another 30minutes should do the trick. 

Melting Instructions

I used the boiling water method. I simply put some water in a large pan and took it off the stove when the water was brought to a boil. I immediately immersed my chocolate which i put in a glass dish in the water. I kept stirring with a spatula until it eventually melted. It takes only a few minutes to achieve this. Leave in the hot water to keep the chocolate melt consistency. Melt in batches and not all at once.
