This was our 6th birthday party ever, and this time, I really wanted her to choose the things she loved. @BaubleBar was such a natural part of it because she already loves their bracelets and making her own jewelry.

They provided the cutest bead kits for the girls to make bracelets and keychains, along with beautiful pouches personalized with each guest’s name to take all their goodies home in. The girls absolutely loved it!

Thank you #BaubleBar for helping us make her 13th birthday that much more special. And those personalized pouches? Let’s just say I was very tempted to snag one for myself. 😆

Okay, let’s get into it because some of these can actually save you MONEY.

- Cancelled flight: This happened to me! Hotel, transportation AND food were covered and best believe I still got my €600 compensation! Know your passenger rights.

- 3+ hour delay: Contact the airline! I’ve used ChatGPT to draft the email requesting compensation, miles or a travel credit. It works.

-Kids’ (under 12)flights: Stop automatically paying the adult fare. Some international airlines offer discounted child fares. Always check.

- Luggage tracker: It’s 2026. A tracker goes in EVERY checked bag. Knowing where my luggage is when the airline doesn’t? Priceless.

- Need a passport FAST? Urgent passport services exist and, in some circumstances, you can get one VERY quickly. And pleaseeee check your passport BEFORE booking that trip.

- Airline loyalty: With these ridiculous flight prices?! I’d rather be loyal to flexible CREDIT CARD POINTS. More airlines, more options, better value.

My daughter’s hair routine

Hi y’all and thanks for stopping by. I am sharing a few nuggets on kids hair care today. Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria I dreaded getting my hair done because it was such an ordeal. Crying was part of the weekly routine and sitting down for hours wasting my Saturday afternoons at the hair salon. I knew when I had my daughter I was going to take the time to educate myself on good hair care. I know there are kids hair salon nowadays, but wouldn’t it be awesome to know what to do using the right products for your kid’s hair?. I am sharing my hair care routine for my daughter’s hair and addressing some general questions. There will be more kids hair care post based on feedback from my readers.

How often do you wash her hair?

I wash her hair once a week.

What do you use?

I use a *shampoo twice a month and a co-washer for the other two weeks.

*I use a sulfur free shampoo brand , specifically Shea Moisture an organic line of hair products.

I use this shampoo because it is specifically for curly hair, they carry a variety of shampoo for different hair textures

What is co-washing?

Co-washing is the process in which hair is washed using a conditioner. I do not use an actual conditioner to co-wash her hair, I use a co-washer. There are actual products sold as co-washers in the stores.

Why use a co-washer?

I use a co-washer because it is a great way to keep hair moisturized without stripping off its natural oils. It also softens the hair and is great for anyone with itchy scalp and dry hair.

How do you condition her hair?

I use a deep conditioner for her hair. After washing her hair with shampoo or with a co-washer, I squeeze out the excess water and then apply a deep conditioner to her hair, from root to tip and I use a plastic bag (I need to buy her a shower cap) to cover her hair for 30 minutes. Once the plastic bag is on her head, I release her to go play.

This conditioner works for a variety of hair textures

What next?

I section out her hair and then begin to use a silicone brush to comb out her hair. I always hold the roots  of hair with my other hand, before doing this. This ensures minimal pain. This process takes me about 2 minutes. Using the right instrument matters, invest in this brush.

Denman classic styling brush/ row silicone hair brush

Next up

I rinse off the conditioner using lukewarm water. I squeeze out the excess water and using an old t-shirt, I dry out the water from her hair.

Why don’t you use a towel?

The thread in towels can easily get caught in hair which creates friction. I use a t-shirt because it is 100% cotton and it does the job as careful as possible. We all have old t-shirts, pick one and use that. Yes it wont be completely dry, towels don’t do that either.

Leave-in conditioner

Applying a leave-in conditioner ensures that her hair is soft and tangle free. I apply it generously to her hair (get a spray bottle to make this easy) I use my fingers to work it into her hair. My leave-in is diluted in ratio 2:1 (2 water: 1 conditioner)  Most leave-ins are often very thick, dilution ensures that I don’t over apply it to her hair.

Sealer

My choice for sealing the moisture in her hair is virgin coconut oil.It does wonders for edges growth too. I apply coconut oil generously into hair, working it from root to tip. Argan oil, Olive oil, Moroccan oil, Shea oil  are excellent sealers too.

What next?

Using a comb, I section her hair in two parts (you might need 3 or more 4 depending on hair length.) I  then comb it thoroughly and create two ponytails. I twist out the ends of the hair to limit shrinkage.

Last step

I leave her hair to air dry.  Once dry, you can style it as you please or take her to a stylist to get it done. Her hair is so moisturized, the tension when making corn rolls for instance isn’t there.

How long does this take you?

About an 1 hour. Removing the deep conditioning wait time, you will actually be working on the hair for about 30 minutes.

With practice, this process becomes faster.

Questions?

Send me an email at titispassion@gmail.com

Images below shows the process, step-by-step

Up next, twist outs, check back next week for the twist out tutorial.

Other product options I am familiar with

Shampoo choices: Jane Carter, Mixed Chicks,

Conditioner: Jane Carter, Mixed Chicks

Co-washer: Mixed Chicks conditioner, any deep conditioning conditioner

Leave-In: Kinky Curly
